CommonUnity - Purpose

What am I doing here? Lured back by the bait of my dream job, I endured rush hour traffic to travel downtown and now I sit and I wait and I wonder. Is this what I am supposed to be doing?

The GPS in the car had guided me safely from my home to the interview. The turn by turn directions were spoken in a voice clear and sure. I placed my trust in the “personal travel assistant” to get me to my goal. If I strayed off the course, the voice would redirect me with a firm but gentle “recalculating.”

Having arrived at my destination, I prayed before getting out of my car. Not a prayer for a job offer, instead I asked for clear vision. “May our time together be productive so we can make wise decisions. Make it obvious, God. Is this where you want me to be?”

Do you question how you should invest your time? Do you wonder if God has a plan for you? Perhaps you know that He has a vision for your life, yet you struggle with following his directions.

I am blessed to have the luxury of deciding if I am supposed to return to work. Others may struggle with the call to coach basketball or to teach Sunday school or to join a study group. Like an endless Sunday buffet, our lives are filled with choices. Some people pack so much into a day it overflows into the next. Is your plate full?

Job reminds us that “if they obey and serve him, they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity and their years in contentment.” (Job 36:11). Take time to pray about your direction in life. God shows us “the way.”

“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Teach me to do our will, for you are my God; may your Spirit lead me on level ground.” (Psalm 143: 8,10).

Thanks Jessica for your testimony of trusting in God's direction. It is difficult to really listen for Him during our daily lives(driving the kids to school, cleaning the house, working....). My prayer in the morning is to be able "see" and "hear" Him throughout my daily tasks; however, I find as I go about my day I get distracted and I need to remind myself to look for Him. It is me that looses sight of His direction, not a lack of Him trying to direct me! Once I remind myself to pay attention, I am able to hear Him and his guidance in my life.

Jessica, you do have a way with words. I've been wanting to email here. Time? Is there ever enough of it? We each get the same allotted amount. Question is what we do with it.

I've been trying to pray more often during the day. It is a challenge. I get ready for bed at night realizing I hadn't said a word to my best Friend - my Savior, Jesus.

Fix my eyes on Jesus. My theme in life.

Fix your eyes on Jesus. A prompting for all of us. A wise person once suggested that we begin our day with a prayer of thanksgiving to God and pray continually during the day only saying Amen as we retire in the evening.

....pray in the morning before your feet hit the ground, and at night before your head hits the pillow....
And of course throughout the day. He is your best friend! He wants to hear from you. You don't even have to pick up the phone.
God is Good.

What a great prayer. I am definately going to have to borrow that one Jess. Sometimes in praying for what we want or think we need we forget important requests. We may remember to ask for his will but often forget to ask for something as simple and yet profound as productive and wise decisions. Keep leading by example Jess. That is the greatest form of submission.
